What If I Listened?

During this season of quarantine, I’ve been taking a new look at prayer. Prayer is essentially “communication with God”.

I’ve looked back at several Old Testament references when God and man converse. Here are a couple of things that I’ve discovered:

  1. God initiates the conversation.
  2. He starts with a question.

Adam where are you? Moses, what’s in your hand? Elijah, what are you doing here? And in the New Testament— Paul why are you kicking against the goads? Why stand you here gazing? ...... on and on!

I have concluded my observations with this thought:

What if I spent 99% of my prayer time listening for the “question” that He’s asking me, instead of trying to delineate mine?

HE has all knowledge. I have a thimble full. HE is the answer, so HE must have the answer to the question that He’s asking me. Thus, in the process of answering His question, I’ll inevitably find the answers to mine.

So my first order of prayer: Lord, what are you asking me during this season?

It’s easy to comply with Paul’s idea of “praying without ceasing”, if we understand that....

The Father always has a question for me to answer. I answer with my life!

Somewhere in the overflow of “abundant life”, the answer is spilled!

OUR VERY LIFE BECOMES A PRAYER!
