Words That Build Your World

Whoever said, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words may never hurt me," lied!!!

I can't think of anything that hurts worse than to be gored by someone with an insulting word. These deep wounds initially are invisible and are not noticed. When they do show up, they lace themselves through every part in the fabric of our lives. If we mentally digest the poison that was fed us, then we become damaged and in much need of repair.

I wish it were as easy as water on the proverbial "duck's back." It would be nice if you could just flex or shake and voila! It would be like your ears never heard those harmful verbal projections. Although it's not that easy, once you know what to do, it gets easier! Then it's not just surviving, but thriving.

When your Father, your heavenly one that is, wanted something He created it with His words. Guess what, you were created in His image! You, in fact, can make something from your words. You have a choice to live in two worlds; the world that others speak into existence for you or the one that you and your Father build.

By default, the world that is built for you from the construction of damaging words is not a desirable place. After all, how do they know what's best for you? On the other hand, HE designed and built you and knows exactly what you're capable of. In fact, He calls you "wonderfully made" and that "every moment" was built with you in mind. (Psalms 139)

Every single day you decide as to who's world you will live in. The one built for you by injurious people and things from your past, or maybe a small limited world that you have fenced yourself into. Perhaps it's your words that are contributing to your own demise. You can choose to live in a world where you're limited by yourself or those around you, or you can choose to live by God's words. His words create the best world!

Take advice from a terrorist turned Christ follower. Can you imagine the battle Paul fought daily as to which world to live in? His old world kept trying to remind him of his disqualifications. His new world of religion kept challenging him to prove himself. He chose to live in The Father's world. The world of a "new creation in Christ."

Listen to his heart as he gives us something to build on; "Christian brothers, keep your minds thinking about whatever is true, whatever is respected, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever can be loved, and whatever is well thought of. If there is anything good and worth giving thanks for, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8)

Here are three things that I believe will empower you to live by God’s words:

1. Put a guard gate on your mind.

2. Spend more time in the "Good News," which is God's word.

3. Stop repeating things that haven't been proven true about yourself and others.

One more thing. If you are a Christian, then you should know that "you're in the world but not of the world." So quit adapting to the world's culture. You are not a garbage collector for all the negative waste! No, you are constructed for the ultimate "Spring of Water" that will never run dry!

Who cares about being "in the know." Be part of the flow! His words will build your world.
